A placard set on the plinth of the cyclist statue, reading (in English and in Japanese), “Lake Biwa, a Mecca for Cyclists: Biwaichi is a term that means enjoyable cycling around the iconic and very scenic Lake Biwa. This is the point where King Liu, founder and chairman of Giant Manufacturing Co. Ltd. started a ride for Biwaichi with many cyclists on 20th of May 2016. He saw the great potential for Lake Biwa to become a mecca for local and international cyclists. His visit attracted many cyclists to visit Lake Biwa. The statue depicts a woman showing how impressed she was with Biwaichi and her enjoyment at the beautiful scenery she viewed on the route. The monument has been established as a symbol to promote Biwaichi as a safe and exciting cycling experience for everyone.”
